Five medical practice tasks simplified—from desk to diagnosis—using the Tablet PC
These are some excellent discussion points for how tablet PC's can increase efficiency and satisfy increased need in helathcare.
1. Interacting with your patient during a consultation
A picture or sketch is worth a thousand words when communicating treatment plans or injury descriptions with your patient. Patients internalize and retain information better through interactive tools. Adding handwritten notes, sketches, and images is easy with the digital pen and handwriting capability.
2. Entering handwritten notes into the Electronic Health Record
Using the Tablet PC in Tablet mode allows the use of a stylus to click on software choices and enter handwritten notes that are captured electronically and are easily accessible. Charting can be completed during patient visits while still maintaining a personal connection with the patient and eliminating the need to enter information into the EHR later. Medical instructions can be wirelessly* sent for printing and handed to the patient at the end of the appointment.
3. Generating accurate Prescriptions for fast fulfillment
Electronically use your Tablet PC at point of care to review medication lists, select prescriptions, accurately prepare scripts that and perform medication reconciliation. All of these tasks can be sent wirelessly* to the front office for the patient at check out; or directly to the pharmacy for fast fulfillment.
4. Sharing information at point of care.
Share x-rays, other types of images, and results with your patients in the examination room. Multitouch gestures, finger taps and swipes across the screen allow easy and efficient navigation through applications and menus, to compare x-ray images and look up pertinent medical information. Images of procedures can be shared with and saved into their medical record.
5. Facilitating efficient workflow practices from office to examination room
Your workday may begin in your office, answering emails and planning your day, but you shouldn't spend more time trying to figure out your computers than you do practicing medicine. Your Tablet PC is docked and working as a fully featured desktop PC. With a simple flip, the Tablet PC can be used in tablet mode, using the stylus to enter handwritten notes or click on software choices. Move from the office to the examination room with ease.

Case Study: Real Estate Brokerage Implements Office 365 for Cloud-based use of Email and Document Sharing
I found an item on Microsoft's official site on Office 365, which shifts Microsft's Office offerings into the Cloud. In this case study, a small real estate brokerage wanted to be more responsive to their clients by allowing their agents to be accessible to their systems from anywhere while using a myriad of devices without the need of IT infrastructure support. This brokerage now uses Microsft Office 365 for Cloud-based email and document sharing.

Opinion: Why Future Windows-based Tablets Will Attract iPad Users
A recent opinion by Blake Sanders, a writer for the Broadband Expert, discusses how future Windows-based tablets will appeal to existing iPad users.
In his article, Blake makes three main points.
1) New windows-based tablets (windows 8 in particular) will put "Computing" back in to mobile computing.
*Cutting edge windows tablets will be fully functional computers
that will include processing intensive programs
2) "Versatility and Velocity"
*Windows 8 will be capable of working on desktops, laptops as well
as on a tablet.
*Windows 8 has been optimized for touchscreen devices that use
ARM based technology.
*Future windows based tablets will utilize Hyper-V and USB 3.0
*8 Second Boot-up time
3) Support
*Apple has painfully restricted third-party development.
*Microsoft will continue to offer third-party support.

Tablet PCs Gain Momentum Among SMBs, Enabling Cloud Solutions
Recent studies by the analyst firm AMI Partners indicate that "SMBs who have embraced mobility generated 40% higher revenue growth over the last 12 months compared to those who did not. As the mobile workforce trend continues, mobile devices, including tablet PCs, will play an integral part in supporting these employees."

The F5v is a durable tablet PC that combines robust performance with integrated features to deliver the ideal solution for field workers who compute and enter data while standing or walking. Mobile professionals across construction, field sales and service and government are using the F5v because it provides the durability and functionality of a rugged PC without the extra weight and price associated with traditional, fully rugged devices.
One of the first SpawGlass clients to benefit from the F5v and BIM connection will be the owners of the multi-million dollar, two-phase Student Activity Center/Liberal Arts Building, currently under construction at the University of Texas (UT) campus in Austin, Texas.
“Our goal is to create a tight connection between design intent and field activities, and then provide the owners with the same level of coordination and visibility throughout the lifecycle of a structure,” said Chris Tisdel, BIM technologist at SpawGlass.
Using the F5v, all relevant information used to design, construct and coordinate the UT construction process is readily accessible to any of the project team members throughout construction. SpawGlass uses the mobile computing solution to support Primavera P6 project management software, Navisworks Simulate design, simulation and project review software and Carlson Survey surveying software with a robotic total station solution.
The F5v, running the Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management scheduling program, allows surveyors to easily share the project schedule with field personnel in real time as well as input schedule updates, all while in the field. Additionally, the Navisworks Simulate software allows the project team to identify problems in the field before they become a cost impact. With the survey software loaded on the F5v, SpawGlass is able to select control points directly from the CAD drawings or 3D model while in the field, and manipulate, layer and overlay drawings on the fly.
To prepare the model for use by the owner, SpawGlass BIM experts will tag building components with a barcode number within the model. Each barcode will include all requested information including commissioning data, installation data, maintenance schedule, startup procedures and more. When construction is complete, SpawGlass will download the model and database to the F5v for use in commissioning and handover to the owner.
“BIM data has the potential to provide far-reaching benefits to our customers,” said Tisdel. “The ability to hand the owner the F5v with all the commissioning data and the model that directly connects to their server system is a very powerful and critical step forward for the future of our industry.”
“Tablet PCs provide a powerful, yet flexible connection between the office and the field, enhancing communication and driving collaboration between previously disparate project teams,” said Mike Stinson, vice president of marketing, Motion Computing. “SpawGlass is a perfect example of a company proactively integrating software technologies with mobility solutions to create efficiencies, streamline procedures and transform the entire construction, commissioning and handover processes.”

Motion Computing's Official Response to Supply Concerns from the Earthquake in Japan
March 28, 2011
Dear Valued Customer:
The unimaginable destruction caused by the earthquake and Tsunami that occurred March 11th in Japan has had devastating consequences for the nation and its people. Our thoughts are with them and our many friends in Japan who have been impacted by these recent events.
In response to recent customer and partner inquiries, we feel it is necessary to inform you that at this time neither Motion, our major manufacturing partners, or their people located in China and Taiwan have been directly affected. As such, we have confirmed that components, materials and manufacturing capacity are available to meet our forecasted
needs in the near-term. In order to help prepare to meet future needs, we are now in the process of identifying any potential medium-term or long-term impacts.
Specific risk mitigation actions are underway, which include but are not limited to bothsecuring components and commodities, and well as qualifying additional components sources to augment our current approved vendor list. Our component suppliers located in Japan are in the process of doing the same for the items they supply to Motion or our manufacturing partners.
We look forward to your continued business and understanding as we work through the details of this complex situation. As we move forward through the next few weeks and months, we will provide updates in the event there are any changes that will impact our ability to ship to current stated lead-times.
If you have further questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to email myself at jamundson@motioncomputing.com or Mike Stinson, Motion VP of Marketing, atmstinson@motioncomputing.com.
